Restoring power quickly, safely and in a cost effective manner following severe storms remains a top priority for every utility throughout the country. As Central Vermont Public Service (CVPS) reports in January's Transmission & Distribution World magazine, they have found a "Streamlined approach to outage management." The company now utilizes the Resources on Demand software from Macrosoft to manage crews, other storm personnel equipment, lodging, logistic support and the associated costs.
CVPS says by investing in Macrosoft's Resources on Demand software, they are now able to quickly assemble and dispatch its field crews in the event of an emergency. "Rather than tracking the crews through multiple programs, the company can instead retain all the information on one central location," said CVPS. Now when a storm hits the region, the utility knows exactly what resources it has in which areas and can ensure that crews all have meals and lodging.
The T&D article also discusses the benefits of Macrosoft's website Outagecentral.com. This free service is designed to help emergency personnel from utilities obtain nationwide outage information, severe weather alerts and outage news. As Scott Massie of CVPS said, "By viewing outage information across the country, it will be helpful to find out what is going on elsewhere and what key weather events are happening."
